Mrs. Lindsey Luminais, who teaches seventh grade Mathematics at Lutcher High School, is entering her 19th year as an educator, all of them here in St. James Parish Schools. Having previously taught both first and second grades, she says she feels blessed to be able to teach many of her students for a second time in her current role. She says, “To see them where they are now and how they have grown is very rewarding.”
Mrs. Luminais says her favorite part of her job is the excitement when students walk through the door. She says the relationships she builds with her students allows for smiling faces each day, and that is the best. She also mentions promoting an open door policy in her room for “her kids”, as she calls them all, where she says, “I encourage ‘my kids’ to visit me every now and then, even after our time in the classroom together is done. My goal is for kids to know that they matter, and I truly hope that I make them feel that way.”
Mrs. Luminais’s advice to new teachers is to build relationships with students because it will make you love what you do.
She added that her time in SJPS has made her feel as if we are definitely headed in the right direction. She says that under Superintendent Kimball’s leadership, she feels as if the goals set for our schools are leading up to definite success.
