Ms. Carmen Folse, an educator of 17 years, has called St. James Parish Schools home for five years. She teaches third and fourth graders at Cypress Grove Montessori Academy.
When asked what it is that brought her to St. James Parish Schools, Ms. Folse says, “I came for a change of environment and found it within Montessori. The change was very refreshing and energizing. I stay for the feeling of family I get with those who work in this district and at my school. Since day one I have felt welcome and wanted.” She adds, “My journey at CGMA has been so rewarding these last few years. Living the philosophy and working with my wonderful colleagues has allowed me to grow as a person and as a teacher. I couldn't ask for a better work family.”
Her favorite part of the job is when a child grasps a concept and they light up with joy. She says this feeling ignites a love for learning which allows them even more success. Ms. Folse strives to follow the words of Dr. Maria Montessori: “Free a child's potential and you will transform him into the world."
Ms. Folse’s advice to new teachers is that it takes a village to educate a child. She says, “Do not be afraid to reach out to your colleagues for guidance or perspective. A school, collectively, is invested in the growth of all its students. You are not alone.”
