Ms. Angela Cazenave, an art teacher at St. Louis Academy for the past 7 years, has been an educator for a total of 37.5 years, spending 20 of them here in St. James Parish Schools.
Ms. Cazenave believes that it is important to connect the various subjects in teaching, which is something she strives to do through art for her students. She has written and received a grant named “Reading and Art, The Perfect Pair” that funds art supplies for her class to be able to connect to other subject areas such as reading and social studies.
She is a firm believer that learning should be fun and meaningful for her students. Recently SLA students were invited to create artwork for a Manners of the Heart Fundraiser and art auction in New Orleans. Ms. Cazenave is also very proud of her Christmas play production where her students perform Christmas songs in American Sign Language. She says she loves when students feel liberated to be creative and that their art matters.
Ms. Cazenave says that she loves teaching PK-3 because she feels, “This is where I belong,” and she says the kids are wonderful and she speaks of the love she has for her coworkers.
To new teachers, Ms. Cazenave says, “Make your lessons matter. Find your passion, and make it meaningful for the kids.”
