Ms. Aimee Spears teaches Pre-Kindergarten for the St. James Parish Performing Arts Magnet Program at Paulina Elementary School. She has been teaching for 24 years, with 18 of them here in St. James Parish Schools.
Ms. Spears says she came to St. James Parish Schools when she got married, and now she calls it home. She enjoys being a part of the community in which she teaches.
Ms. Spears’s favorite part of teaching Pre-K is her time spent with the kids. She reflects on how much fun they are and their zest for life. She says, “Their joy is infectious, and it’s wonderful to spend my days in their presence.”
Her advice to new teachers is to pace yourself, ask others for help, and find joy in what you do every day. She notes that, “Teaching is a profession in which there are many ups and downs. It is both exuberant and exhausting. It is filled with joy and heartache. There are times when you feel great success, and times that you don’t quite reach your goals. Despite it all, I believe that teaching is one of the most noble professions there is, and I am proud to say that I am a teacher.”
