What are SUN Bucks?
Starting in summer 2024, Louisiana SUN Bucks, also referred to as Summer EBT, will
provide families with $120 for each eligible school-aged child to buy groceries during the
summer break. Students must have been enrolled in school during the month of May 2024.
Who is eligible for SUN Bucks
Students are automatically eligible if they receive:
SNAP
TANF
Medicaid (with household income below 185% of the federal poverty level)
The following students may also be eligible, but will need to apply for Sun Bucks in
August (Phase 3):
Students Experiencing Homelessness
Migrant Children
Students in a family with a household income below 185% of the federal poverty level.
When are SUN Bucks Issued?
Phase 1: Children who received SNAP benefits during the 2023-2024 school year and were
born between August 15, 2005, and July 1, 2028 are eligible for streamlined certification
and will be automatically enrolled. SUN Bucks benefits will be added to their existing SNAP
Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card by June 21, 2024.
Phase 2: Children of any age who received SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF benefits during the
2023-2024 school year will receive Sun Bucks benefits in late July. Sun Bucks EBT cards
will be mailed to children who do not already have an EBT card.
Phase 3: All other children should apply for the Sun Bucks program in August, if they meet
the requirements above.
